Iron Butt Logo The IBA has teamed up with the BMW Motorcycle Owners of America for a special SaddleSore 1000, the ride will finish at the MOA's International Rally, which is being held from July 23-25, 2015 in Billings, Montana.

Riders can start anytime between 12:01 a.m. Saturday, July 18th and 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 23th from any location over 1,000 miles from Billings.

During registration, you will be asked to enter the basic cities your route will use or you can choose one of this start locations (press city name for route map)


1) Tomah, Wisconsin via I-94 - awarded 1,008 miles

2) Primm, Nevada - awarded 1,020 miles

3) Sacremento, California - awarded 1,100 miles

4) Eugene, Oregon - awarded 1,020 miles

5) Vancouver, BC, Canada (tough but fun route!)- awarded 1,020 miles

6) Albuquerque, New Mexico - awarded 1,001 miles

7) Junction City, Kansas- awarded 1,015 miles

8) Iowa City, Iowa- awarded 1,015 miles

FOR THOSE WHO LIVE CLOSE TO BILLINGS or those that have another city in mind, you may suggest other routes, but they must be submitted via Google Maps link for approval before the ride (or other on-line map system that allows you to share a route and shows the route mileage, for example Bing maps or Mapquest) to For some tips on how to use Google Maps, visit Google Maps which unfortunately is going through some upgrades so instructions on link creation is changing as Google rolls out the new system.

These cities were chosen as start points in an effort to simplify the documentation requirements for riders. You have 24 hours to complete the 1,000+ mile to Billings to be considered a finisher.

Finishers of the Big Sky 1000 will receive a distinctive Big Sky 1000 certification, SaddleSore 1000 ride pin, special 2015 Big Sky 1000 ride sticker and IBA World's Toughest Plate back along with memebership in the IBA. And in what we hope will be the first of many such events, an IBA-MOA Pizza Party Awards Ceremony for Big Sky 1000 finishers will be held at the Rally on FRIDAY NIGHT at 6 pm on site at the Rally fairgrounds! The fee is $60.15 and includes the price of the party.

The IBA Big Sky 1000 Ride In is not limited just to BMW riders all marques are welcome! However, you must also be registered to attend the BMW MOA rally - visit 2015 BMW MOA Rally - to partcipate in the Big Sky 1000.


On Friday night at 6 pm we will be handing certifications to those that finish the ride-in at am informal Pizza Party with beer. IBA members and their guests are welcome to register. This is a low-key social gathering, Pizza will be brought in from a local shop, a couple of kegs of beer from the MOA Beer Garden, as well as soft drinks and bottled water. Cost is a modest $15.15.

Registration is $60.15 please remember, you must also be registered to attend the BMW MOA rally!

IMPORTANT: Due to financial commitments, the refund deadline for the Big Sky 1000 is July 1, 2015. After that, you may elect to do the ride up to one year (August 1, 2016) and mail your ride documents in (riders do take advantage of this option all the time).
