Background

New Zealand Pies are world famous, especially within New Zealand! It's hard to beat the old staples of a Mince and Cheese; Steak, Bacon and Cheese, or a Bacon and Egg, but nowadays in NZ we're not limited to the established options, there's all sorts of specialty pies out there now. And, not all of them even have meat in them any more! - What?! - I know right!... When riding around NZ's picturesque roads, why not make a point of targeting some of the very best which are on offer?

Read the rules for the iconic SaddleSore 1000 on the Ironbutt Association site. The rules for this ride are similar and you will get valuable background information.

Rules

Here's a map showing some of the very best spots: - click to open - these are just suggestions and recommendations, you can choose others too!

If you would like a special 'Pie Run' certificate, then the requirements are pretty straight forward:
  • Stop and eat a pie of your choice at a minimum of three different places along your route - there is no upper limit to the number of pies you can consume on your ride!
  • Take a photo of yourself eating each of your pies - yes, a selfie - THIS IS A MUST!
  • Upload your selfie to your SpotWalla track, if you're making one.
  • Grab a receipt (DBR), this must show your pie purchase. Write your ODO on the receipt, and take a photo of the receipt with your ODO before you head off from that pie stop.
  • There are no firm minimum distances between pies, this is not a Gold level ride, there are no 'extended options' for this ride, this is all just for fun.
When you submit your ride for verification say you'd like a Pie Run certificate and be sure to include your Selfie Photos, and the photos of the receipts with your Odometer (ODO).

Please outline your ride in a brief ride-log, naming the places and the pies which you enjoyed along the way.

That's it! - May you enjoy your pies and have a truely full-filling ride!

General

  • Ride-start and ride-end receipts should be annotated with your bike's odometer reading and should be photographed, clearing showing all details on the receipt, along with a clear view of your bike's odometer, these need to be submitted as part of your ride verification request.
  • DBRs should be kept for all fuel stops, numbered and annotated with your bike's odometer reading for each stop - these may be called upon during ride verification.
  • Photographs of Pies must be selfies, showing you actually EATING the pie! - No exceptions, if you fail on this very simple requirement then you'll have a standard SaddleSore certificate issued.

Nesting other rides
